Oscillation is a special category of periodic motion and simple harmonic motion is a special type of oscillation. One example of simple harmonic motion is the motion or oscillation of a spring block system. When a body repeats its motion after a certain period of time, it is called periodic motion. When periodic motion is about a mean position, it is called oscillation.
