Recognize the role of indefinite pronouns in sentences • Summary: • Define indefinite pronouns • Indefinite pronouns – does not refer to a specific person or thing. • The indefinite pronouns everyone, everybody, no one, nobody, someone, somebody, anyone and anybody are used to refer persons. They are singular in number and always used with singular verbs. • Examples: someone is playing with the puppies. • Does anyone own that blue bag? • Colorful roses attract everyone. • The indefinite pronouns everything, something, anything, and nothing are used to refer to nonliving things. • Examples: There is nothing to eat. • You can choose anything from the menu. • I bought everything at the mall. • Sample/Exercise: • Encircle the indefinite pronouns in each sentence. • 1. After the party everybody was happy. • 2. Will somebody open the door? • 3. Oh no! There’s nothing left. • 4. No one wants to answer the survey. • 5. Can anyone pass the paper. • 6. I like to eat something salty. • 7. You must eat something. • 8. somebody ate my food! • 9. Is there anything in this box? • 10. Everyone is busy.
