If you are replacing an old front derailleur, first remove the cable from the derailleur. Then, use the allen to remove the two bolts that secure the derailleur to the frame. • β Mount the new front derailleur. Place the new front derailleur on the frame and align it so that the cage is parallel to the chainrings. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to tighten the two bolts that secure the derailleur to the frame. • β Attach the cable. Thread the cable through the derailleur and attach it to the derailleur arm. Use the cable cutter to cut the excess cable. • β Adjust the front derailleur. Use the Allen to adjust the height of the front derailleur. The cage should be slightly above the largest chainring. • β Adjust the cable tension. Use the 5mm Allen wrench to adjust the cable tension. The cable should have enough pressure to shift the chain smoothly but not so much tension that it is difficult to shift. • Here are some additional tips for installing a Shimano FD-R8000 front derailleur: • β Make sure that the front derailleur is properly aligned. The cage should be parallel to the chainrings and the outer edge of the cage should be slightly above the largest chainring. • β Adjust the cable tension carefully. Too much tension can make it difficult to shift, while too little tension can cause the chain to drop off the chainrings. • β . Test the front derailleur after you have installed it to make sure that it is shifting smoothly. • If you are unsure about how to install a Shimano FD-R8000 front derailleur, it is always best to consult a qualified mechanic. • ποΈ Sign Up for my Newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hRAwTP • My passion for bikes started when my parents opened a shop in the 1980s called Parker Bikes (we were located in Parker, Colorado). My love for cycling has continued since then, in my work and with my hobbies of road cycling and mountain biking. After my parents’ shop closed, I worked for other bike shops (including Lee’s Cyclery in Fort Collins), where I built and sold bikes, fixed and tuned up bikes, and managed inventory. • I love working on bikes and want to share my passion for cycling with others.
