At the beginning of the pandemic, Peggy Orenstein had an idea: instead of baking sourdough, she would learn how to make a sweater from scratch, everything from shearing the sheep, spinning the wool, dyeing the wool, etc. Meanwhile, she had to figure out what her life looked like as her nest emptied and the clock of mortality ticked: who was she, at the end of her middle aged self? What she learned about life--never mind about sheep, wool, and clothing--is to love and find meaning in process.
