GP Connect is a service that allows GP practices and authorised clinical staff to share and view GP practice clinical information and data between IT systems, quickly and efficiently. In its simplest terms, it allows Nahla here, to be treated quicker and more efficiently. She lives in South East Hampshire, an area currently piloting GP Connect, to support extended access and 111 appointment booking in her area. Nahla's persistent back pain has got worse in recent days, so she's called her GP to book an appointment. The receptionist is unable to book her an appointment at her own practice, but instead has booked her an emergency appointment at a local extended access clinic that's closer to her home. This is better for Nahla in her current condition. GP Connect aims to improve four key outcomes for the patient. One, it allows the new GP seeing Nahla to view a read-only patient record, which will inform them of Nahla's medical history. Two, it manages GP appointments with appointment management. Nahla can call her surgery for an appointment to be made with an extended access clinic, or a 111 call handler can book her into her own GP. Three, in the future, the clinician supporting Nahla will be able to import or download her medicines or allergies information. Four, in the future, a summary of these consultations can be sent to Nahla's usual GP practice and added to her record.
