In this video, Sam takes a look at the Roland FP-30, one of the best value digital pianos currently available, offering professional quality and features at a very affordable price. Check one out here: https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/roland-fp... • The FP-30 takes the same great sound quality and feel of Roland’s high end digital pianos, but packages it into a more compact, lightweight and affordable design. It’s an ideal choice if space is limited in your home, as it can easily be moved around and will fit into a much tighter space than a conventional piano, but due to it’s high quality construction, professional grade keyboard and versatile features, it also makes for a great, simple stage piano for live work, as well as being perfect for use in schools, churches or musical theatre. • The keyboard itself, which is probably the most important feature when looking at a piano such as this, is Roland’s PHA-4 design. It’s got 88 full size, weighted keys, each with an ivory feel, something you don’t often see at this price point, and something called escapement action, which replicates the feel of the hammer hitting the strings on a real acoustic piano. • Feature-wise, the FP-30 does take a slightly stripped back approach when compared to the high end models or other stage pianos, but for learning, teaching and using it as a standard piano, all of the essentials are on board. There’s 35 tones to choose from, 6 pianos, 7 electric pianos and 22 “other” sounds including organs and strings etc, and the main piano sound, which is probably the one you’re going to be using the most, utilises Roland’s awesome sounding supernatural engine. • Although you can’t strictly “edit” any of the onboard sounds, you can adjust their timbre to a certain extent by using the different selectable ambiance and brilliance settings. Dual mode also allows two of the onboard tones to be combined, let’s say for example the classic combination of piano and strings, with the volume of each tone being adjustable to allow one to be more dominant than the other. The keyboard can also be split, so a different tone to be played with each hand, for example a bass in the lower half of the keyboard and a piano in the upper, and that split point is easily adjustable at the touch of a button. One feature that makes the FP-30 great for teaching is it’s twin piano mode, which effectively splits the keyboard into two, giving you two middle C’s. This means a teacher and student can sit side by side and play exactly the same notes but in two separate places on the keyboard, a great way of learning and dueting, and to accommodate this, there’s also two separate headphone outputs. • Other features include an adjustable metronome, 8 different types of drum rhythm backing for you to jam along with and a basic song recorder, allowing you to record yourself practicing a piece before playing it back, so you can hear where you need to work on improving. • MIDI and WAV audio files can be played back through the internal speakers for you to play along with via a USB memory stick, a standard USB connector allows you to connect the FP-30 to your computer, with full MIDI compatibility and 128 voice polyphony for sequencing, and bluetooth connectivity means it’ll work wirelessly with music and tuition apps on your phone or tablet, including the excellent Roland Partner 2 app, which I’d really recommend downloading if you do purchase one of their digital pianos. • You wouldn’t notice at first glance, but the FP-30 also features a pair of discreetly hidden internal speakers, so you don’t need to connect it to an external amplifier of headphones to hear what your playing. Now due to the compact design, it doesn’t sound quite as rich and bassy as Roland’s larger pianos with multi speaker setups, but the sound produced still sounds nice and balanced and is easily loud enough for home practice, teaching or for backing a small vocal group. Finally, as standard, the FP-30 comes supplied with a single sustain pedal, and due to it’s lightweight design, it’ll sit nicely on almost any keyboard stand, but if you did want to make it a more permanent, decorative feature in your home, you can also add an optional KSC-70 stand and KPD-70 three way pedal board for more damping options. Plus, the keyboard’s also available in either a black or white finish, depending on which style you prefer. • Take a quick look and listen with PMTVUK and check one out at your local Professional Music Technology… • Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/c/PMTVUK?sub_... • Find us on social media: •   / pmthouseofrock   •   / pmthouseofrock   •   / pmthouseofrock
