Concrete can be used but it will crack over time and will fail to contain bamboo eventually. Unless its poured very thick (wide), but then it will be a lot more work and cost more than using a durable and unbreakable, thick plastic barrier like this. • If you have sandy or loose loamy soil and live in warmer climates, You will need to go deeper (up to 3 ft). Leaving a high barrier lip above ground makes it easier to see and prevent any rhizomes from jumping over it. Never put a barrier flush with the ground level. • You could dig a trench and back fill with mulch or gravel and then trim the ryzomes once or twice a year. But that method would only be for smaller groves. Don't give yourself that much work.
