I was asked about my average speed, which is so variable, but I would say about 10 km/h (6.2 mph) on flat water. I can paddle a lot faster but I am not into racing even if I participate occassionally in some races. Why a V10L then? I got it for my daughter (12 yr old at the time) but she found it tippy while she was fine with the Fennix Swordfish S. So I am paddling it now and she got a Fennix Bonito. • What's nice with a narrow and light surfski such as the V10L Ultra (17.3 / 44cm wide - 25.6 lbs / 11.6kg) is I move fast enough without having to paddle hard: each stroke is so light compared to paddling a wider surfski. It glides so well. My heart rate was between 110-115 in this clip. Keeping the same average speed on a V8 is easy too, but try a bit faster on a V8 and you need to be a lot fitter :) • I was using the full carbon Epic small mid paddle and a surf rudder. With the Orka Super Flex Pro and the standard rudder I would have been at least 1 km/h faster. I have mixed feelings about the surf rudder, I believe it makes the surfski somewhat unstable with side current and there is certainly a drag. On the upside the surfski turns well which wasn't the case with the original rudder. • About this video: a nice paddle from St Heliers beach to Cheltenham beach with Nick paddling his Bluefin S Hybrid. The strong tidal current was against us. Some strong headwind as well. This is the last 13mn before reaching Cheltenham beach. By North Head (from 4:00) it was becoming choppy and bouncy. I uploaded a short section of it previously but without the speedometer.
