The State Controller’s Office has settled with several national life insurance companies to restore $266.7 million in unpaid benefits to California beneficiaries . • Another source is from overpayment on utilities, dividend etc. Also, California has a law that for business, especially financial institutions, that if an account shows no activity for three years and no contact as been made with the funds in that account must be turned over to the California state controller. • If you believe you have a claim or you don't feel you have one, search their data base and find out. During my search most unclaimed funds were between $20 and $45 dollars. A few were lower but I did come across $300 in unclaimed money. • You never know what you will find.
