1-13 Haken Continuum Fingerboard • Rob Schwimmer: Winter Skipping Pond [© ℗ 2020 Rob Schwimmer] • The Haken Continuum Fingerboard is the heir apparent to the ondes Martenot and Friedrich Trautwein’s Trautonium, all stellar examples of “stepless pitch” instruments. The Continuum is a contemporary high resolution X-Y-Z controller/instrument developed by Lippold Haken starting in 1981. Winter Skipping Pond is based on a “preset” created by Edmund Eagan in the EaganMatrix, the Continuum’s internal sound engine. The EaganMatrix is a DSP based synthesizer that provides innovative musical voices for the (polyphonic) Continuum Fingerboard. Schwimmer, a master of the instrument, played this piece “live” with no overdubbing.
