It's usually hot, humid and muggy in Manaus - not a place that would propel ordinary people to athletic achievements. But the city with a population of 1.8 million in the middle of the Amazonian rainforest was chosen as one of 12 venues for the 2014 Soccer World Cup in Brazil.
