How Many Dread Extensions Do You Need the Different Sizes

Open me for all the info! • I get this question all the time, so I hope this helps at least a few of you! Also, I’d like to disclaimer that I do tend to estimate a little high just to be safe. I mention this in the video a few times, but I wanted to say it again. So the numbers I gave might be a little higher than what you'll see other people say! • ALSO you’ll hear me say “full” and “half” a lot in the video. You’ll see these terms a lot when you’re buying dreads, because it’s how makers sort what they’re selling. Either you see full sets, half sets, or accent sets. Sometimes the maker picks how many is in a full or half set, but sometimes they don’t so that’s why it’s helpful for you to figure out how many you personsally need/want. • If this seems confusing, don’t worry because once you install for the first time you’ll have a MUCH better idea of how many dreads you need (or want). • The Size Categories (remember these are estimates from my own research! They are ranges bc not every maker lists the exact same measurements for each size): • Micro: • 1/8-3/16” • 3-4mm • Most common size: ??? • Full set is usually: 80-90 DE • Half set is usually: 50-60 DE • Thin: • 1/4-3/8” • 5-7mm • Most common size: 1/4” • Full set is usually: 60-70 DE (I've seen some full sets sold as 45-50 which tbh I don't get but whatever!) • Half set is usually: 40-50 DE • Medium: • 5/16-1/2” • 8-12mm • Most common size: 1/2” • Full set is usually: 40-50 DE • Half set is usually: 30-40 DE • Thick: • 3/4-1” • 15-25mm • Full set is usually: 30-40 DE • Half set is usually: 20-30 DE • Most common size: 3/4” • Extra Thick: • Anything above 1” • or 25mm • Full set is usually: 30 DE? • Half set is usually: 20 DE? • Most common size: ??? • Micro and extra thick dreads are the least common, which is why the info I gave for them is the weirdest! I just couldn't find all that much data for those sizes, so I had to give my best guess. • As for SE dreads, I have 0 experience with them, but what I've seen is either people double the amount you would need for DE or add half as much.
