“THEY WATCH OVER OUR FOOD” / Over the past twenty years, one food crisis has followed another: mad cow disease, listeria in cheese, dioxin in chicken, bird flu, horsemeat in lasagne. • Faced with the rampant industrialization of the food industry, increasingly globalized distribution methods, and a growing number of food scandals and counterfeit products, how can we regain confidence in our food? Consumers say they're worried, yet more and more men and women, from farm to fork, are producing and defending quality, tasty food. It's at the borders that the work begins. At Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport, more than twenty veterinarians are on hand 7 days a week to check what is entering the European Union. In France, the DGCCRF brigades take over. Some are dedicated to defending a unique product from a particular terroir. They warn against the sometimes dubious products of supermarkets: honey, for example, of which two-thirds of French consumption is imported. Paul Schweitzer is a passionate scientist and director of an independent honey analysis laboratory. He explains how fake honey (sugar syrup!) is slipped unnoticed into the jars sold to us every day. In the supermarket aisles, two journalists from 60 millions de Consommateurs teach us how to decipher labels, outsmart marketing tricks? And how manufacturers can legally sell us beef broth without beef, or strawberry yoghurt without strawberries? And then there are those who are trying to change consumer practices and initiate new distribution methods. The Mr Goodfish program, born in Boulogne sur mer, is fighting against overfishing, and trying to change French eating habits, by rediscovering fish from our coasts that are too often shunned. • #documentary #society #reportage • A documentary by Leni MÉRAT • First broadcast: 2014 • 🟢 Subscribe to 100% Docs • / @100docs • 🟢 Produced by CAPA Presse • 🟢 Welcome to 100% Docs, THE channel for documentaries of all kinds that opens a window on the world around us.
