What some argue to be the most successful electric locomotives of all time, the GG1s were the electric powerhouse the Pennsylvania Railroad needed to haul trains along what now is the Northeast Corridor, providing service under the PRR, Penn Central, Conrail, the New Jersey Transit Department and Amtrak.
