It can be hard to work out how to get spurs onto your riding boots, and how to thread your spurs and spur straps up correctly too. Points include: • • What a spur rest is and why it’s useful • • How to get your spur sitting nicely on the boot and how to ensure that the buckles are always positioned outwards away from the horse. • • When you’re lacing up your spurs for the first time, always remember that the shank should be pointing downwards and that the buckle needs to be on the outside. Then just adjust the strap so it fits round your boot. • • If you don’t have a spur rest on your boot, you might find that your spurs move around more than you’d like.
