A mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) couple feeding on a pond in the Pacific Northwest. As dabbling ducks, they feed in the water by tipping themselves forward and grazing on underwater plants. While around 2/3 of their diet comes from plant matter, they are omnivores and the other 1/3 of their diet consists of gastropods, insects, crustaceans, and worms. In 2017, a flock of mallards in Romania was observed hunting grey wagtails and black redstarts, the first time they were ever seen feeding on large vertebrates. • See more of the birds of Canada: • • Birds of Canada • British Columbia's Provincial Parks: • • British Columbia Provincial Parks • Sandhill Crane Mating Dance: • • Sandhill Cranes Dancing ~ Mating Danc... • Birds of the Pacific Northwest, Volume I (65 species): • Birds of the Pacific Northwest • Kindly consider subscribing to my channel ~ it's such a huge help in supporting what I do! • https://www.youtube.com/c/WanderingSo... • Short Guitar Clip by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... • Artist: http://audionautix.com/ • #birding #waterfowl #DabblingDucks
