Ask the resident to close his or her lips gently around the probe and avoid biting down on the probe. Hold the probe in place until the temperature reading displays. • 0:56 For axillary thermometry, remove the probe from the probe well and connect a clean probe cover. Then simply press the up or down selection buttons on the vital signs monitor until the display switches from ORL to ALY • 1:12 To take a patient’s temperature tympanically, place the probe in the ear canal and seal the opening with the probe tip. Once positioned properly, press and release the scan button.
