Various skulls on table outside church • • STORYLINE: • • The Rwandan government welcomed the news that a man alleged to be a key figure in the country's 1994 genocide has been arrested in Angola. • • Angola said it had found former Major General Augustin Bizimungu at a camp for demobilised rebel Angolan independence fighters. • • His capture came two weeks after the United States offered a 5 (m) million dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of nine genocide suspects, including Bizimungu. • • Rwandan Foreign Minister Andre Bumaya said that as chief of staff of the former Rwandan army, Bizimungu played a leading role in planning and supervising the genocide in which more than a half million people were killed, mostly Tutsis and political moderates from the Hutu majority. • • The US State Department on Tuesday confirmed Bizimungu's arrest, identifying him as one of about 20 persons still being sought in connection with masterminding the genocide. • • Bizimungu faces charges of genocide, conspiracy to commit genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, Kingsley Moghalu, spokesman of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, said. • • Bizimungu will be transferred to the United Nations tribunal this week, Angolan authorities said. The tribunal was created in November 1994 to try masterminds of the Rwanda genocide.
