Here are highlights from South Plainfield's 50-45 victory over Spotswood on Opening Day of the 2013-14 GMC Boys Basketball season Friday night at SPHS. The Tigers pretty much led the entire way including a 9 point lead late in the third period before Spotswood rallied to pull within three with 4:11 remaining. However, Chris Mathis, who scored a game high 21 points while grabbing 7 rebounds, scored 11 of his 17 second half points the rest of the way on a field goal and 9 of 12 shooting from the foul line to lift the Tigers to the upset over the seventh ranked Chargers. Roemello Monroe chipped in with 8 for SP while Jordan Hankerson added 6. Jake Dadika led Spotswood with 13 points while brother Eric scored all 12 of his points in the fourth period, and fellow sophomore, Marlon Hart added 10 points.
