Elizabeth goes cruising again visited Katakolon Greece in 2014 on the Ruby Princess cruise ship. Katakolon is a charming little port on the Greek mainland situated on a headland overlooking the Ionian Sea. It's a popular destination for cruise ships however there isn't a lot to see except for the usual shops, bars, and restaurants. Katakolon is most famous for Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. There is a rail link to Olympia, it’s about 25 miles away The journey to Olympia lasts for approximately 45 minutes and the round trip ticket price is only 10€. At the time of our visit. Katakolon became a port in 1857.
