In this video we discuss the Fourier Series which is a trigonometric series with very specific coefficients. Essentially, this allows us to compute an approximation of an arbitrary function using a series of cos and sin functions. We derive the calculation for the Fourier coefficients and show an example of it applied to a function. • Topics and timestamps: • 0:00 – Periodic functions • 3:46 – Definition of the Fourier Series • 5:22 – Deriving coefficients for the Fourier Series • 19:29 – Partial sums • 20:38 – Square wave example • 29:30 – Modification to an arbitrary period • 33:13 – Simplifications for even and odd functions • 36:38 – Half range expansions/extensions • 44:03 – Fourier Series minimizes least squares error • Lecture notes and code can be downloaded from https://github.com/clum/YouTube/tree/... • All Fourier analysis videos in a single playlist ( • Fourier Analysis ) • #FourierAnalysis #FourierSeries • You can support this channel via Patreon at / christopherwlum or by clicking on the ‘Thanks’ button underneath the video.
