Diagnosing VW Shifter Slop

Jim shows how to isolate and eliminate different causes of shifter slop found in many VW shifter mechanisms in 5 and 6 speed cars. The Shifter Box shown is a MK4 variant, but this procedure applies to all cable shifted Volkswagens from 2000- current. • The key is to lock the transmission in the Home position so that the shift lever can be moved gently to see where there is extra play in the mechanism. • Hope this helps!
