To pass the Series 7 exam ( technically called the Series 7 top-off exam) you need to know regulations. Municipal bonds are exempt securities but the Broker-Dealers that underwrite, trade, or sell them are regulated by FINRA and the SEC. MSRB ( Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board) writes the rules but FINRA and the SEC enforce them.
