Sometimes a dog comes in for excessive sneezing and watery nose, and it’s not always due to allergies or respiratory infection. • In this case, it was a foxtail! aka grass awn aka wheat seed. These objects found in the summer seasons have a sharp point at one end, and move only in one direction. So when embedded into a pet’s paw, skin, nose, eye, or ear, they can cause severe infection or medical problems. 🙀 • Possible warning signs of an embedded foxtail in different areas include: • ✅Nose – Extreme severe sneezing, pawing at nose, bleeding from nose. Symptoms may diminish after several hours, but become intermittent for several days following • ✅Ear – Tilting/shaking head, pawing at ear, crying, erratic movement • ✅Eye – Squinting eye suddenly, eye swelling, tearing, mucous discharge • ✅Throat – Gagging, retching cough, compulsive grass eating, stretching neck and swallowing • ✅Skin – Small sores between toes or under arms, sores on skin accompanied by swelling or small lumps • • So make sure to check over your pet at the end of the day after being outside or going on hikes and beware of those foxtails 👀 if you suspect your pet is dealing with foxtails, please seek out your local veterinarian, we’re happy to help! 🐶🐱👨⚕️💊🩺🩹💉 • Read more about foxtails and your pets on my blog here at Wellnergy Pets: • https://www.wellnergypets.com/blogs/n...
