This is the famous photo of Nieves Fernandez, the only female guerilla commander in World War 2. Born in Tacloban, Nieves Fernandez initially worked as a schoolteacher. However, after seeing and experiencing the brutal treatment of Japanese soldiers to civilians, she was compelled to fight, first as an assassin and later as a leader of a guerrilla group. In this photo, Nieves shows this American soldier how she assassinates Japanese soldiers using her machete. Nieves is credited with eliminating over 200 Japanese soldiers - Mostly relying only on her machete. • Need a voiceover for your project?
