This is an overview of different pathologist assistant programs in Canada and the US. I'm covering where to find information about the accredited schools, admission requirements along with approximate tuition expectations. • If you don't know which schools offer PA programs in North America you can go to https://naacls.org/Find-a-Program.aspx and select Pathologists' Assistant in the Program Type tab OR go to https://www.pathassist.org/page/About... and scroll down to see the current programs. • As of Spring 2021, there are 12 accredited programs in North America and two additional programs who have received 'Serious Applicant Status' from NAACLS. This means that those schools are in the process of completing their accreditation and students will be eligible to write a certification exam (either the ASCP or CCCPA exam) once they complete the program. The two schools/programs who currently have 'Serious Applicant Status' are the University of Alberta and Tulane University. • Each of the schools offer two year programs based on a didactic year (ie classroom) with a focus on anatomy, physiology, histology and pathology followed by a practicum/clinical rotations. Entrance admission requires a bachelor's with a minimum of 3.0/4.0 GPA, along with at least two reference letters, a resume and a statement of intent. Depending on the school, they may also require prerequisite courses (biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, histology, neuroanatomy, math and English) shadowing in surgical pathology and autopsy (up to 30-40 hours) and a GRE or MCAT score. • Class sizes vary from 2-30 students and different programs start at different times throughout the year (January, to summer and fall starts). • Tuition is also somewhat variable and I mention in the video that this can be difficult to figure out from the websites for each program. Some programs make it very clear and easy to find what their tuition is and may also include estimates of additional costs students incur which include expenses like food, rent and transportation for the length of the program. Other programs' web pages require a bit more digging to figure out what exactly tuition will be for the length of the program. • Overall, Canadian schools seem to be less expensive than American schools and for a Canadian citizen, will range from ~30-40K for tuition. International students coming to Canada will range from ~60-90K for tuition. Tuition for American schools seems to have a wider range from ~50K-160K. (All cost estimates are in Canadian dollars and made in early 2021). • ❤️ If you find my content helpful, become a channel member -    / @canadianpathassistant9066   • WHO AM I: • I'm a full time Pathologists' Assistant working in western Canada.
