Through Research and Development (R D) sponsorship, Andrea Borghi of University of Neuchâtel has developed a new methodology to model karst aquifers in a stochastic framework. • The 'Stochastic Karst Simulator' uses information from a geological model and a Discrete Fracture Network (DFN) model to generate stochastic realizations of the conduit networks that can then be used for groundwater flow modeling. • Main Features • Consistency with geological knowledge • Stochastic approach (uncertainty analysis, etc) • Consistency with current conceptual model about karst genesis • Conditioning to several field data (tracer tests), known inlets (dolines, sinkholes) and outlets (springs) • Possibility to use generated karst model in flow models (e.g. MODFLOW) • Learn more: • https://www.waterloohydrogeologic.com...
