The first activation is shown at 3:35 • We return to Benalla, Victoria for another video. This crossing is at Cemetery Rd, on the southern outskirts of town. • Both signals had McKenzie Holland bases, and the original lights had been replaced with newer Westinghouse LED ones. Both signals had Westinghouse hybrid bells with white beacon lights mounted beside them (for the train crew). The bell on the northern (cemetery) side of the crossing was dead and seems to have been that way for quite some time. There is a video (not mine) from 2014 titled 'ARTC Track Machines at Benalla which shows this crossing, and even back then there was only the one working bell. • At the time I filmed this crossing it was due to be upgraded with gates, the installation was originally scheduled for March 27, 2017 but had been delayed. The foundations for the new signals can be seen in the video. The crossing was then upgraded with gates a month later as part of the Safer Country Crossings program, with the old signals being pulled out and replaced. • Train info: • 1st train: 8610 (6:35am) V/Line passenger service from Albury to Melbourne, hauled by locomotive N471. • 2nd train: 8630 (5:20pm) V/Line passenger service from Albury to Melbourne. This is the same locomotive (N471) and cars from the 1st train. They worked a return service from Melbourne to Albury before forming this train. With the distance from Albury to Melbourne being about 300 kilometres, it makes at least 900km for this train in one day! • Filmed on March 5, 2017.
