This movie was the directorial debut of Aamir Khan. The movie went on to win the Filmfare Best Film Award in 2008 as well as the 2008 National Film Award for Best Film on Family Welfare. • Eight-year old Ishaan (Darsheel Safary) performs poorly in school and often fails in his classes. He finds it difficult to perform activities that are typical to the children of his age but he loves art and is always seen spending his time on painting and creating artwork. He is chided by his parents and teachers and no one seems to appreciate his imaginative mind. Thinking that he needs more disciplining, his parents decide to send him away to a boarding school. • At the boarding school-Ishaan is dejected- isolates himself from everybody and starts withdrawing from all activities, including art. Meanwhile- Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan), fills in as a temporary art teacher, who motivates his students to explore their imagination and think differently. Despite his encouragement- he notices that Ishaan is not participating in the class. After befriending Ishaan- he realises that Ishaan's problems are a sign of dyslexia. As the movie progresses- Ram starts to work with Ishaan by identifying his learning strengths in art. Ram custom-prepares a remediation training regime for Dyslexia and in doing so-helps him to overcome his shortcomings successfully. • This Aamir Khan movie also saw lyricist Prasoon Joshi earning the National Film Award for Best Lyrics and singer Shankar Mahadevan winning the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for Maa. • Taare Zameen Par was released by T-series in 2008 with a U rating.
