Catalytic Converter | Types, Parts, Working, Pros Cons | Explained • In this video, we're going to learn how different exhaust emission system works. • A catalytic converter is an exhaust emission control device that converts toxic gases and pollutants in exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine into less-toxic pollutants by catalyzing a redox reaction. • It is installed on every internal combustion engine car, be it diesel or gasoline. The harmful components released by automobiles are Carbon Monoxide (CO), Hydrocarbons (HC), Nitrogen Oxides, etc., from their exhaust pipes. • As we already know, the exhaust gases from cars contain pollutants that aren’t healthy for the environment, and hence, the Catalytic Converter commonly known as cat-con began to be introduced. The Catalytic Converter is placed or fixed in the exhaust system of the vehicles which is convenient to perform the operation. • The catalytic converter consists of a special catalyst. It is made of platinum and palladium which carries out the chemical reactions. Pollutants like carbon monoxide convert them chemically to less dangerous pollutants like carbon dioxide. The harmful compounds mainly include nitrogen gas, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, etc. • • Where is a catalytic converter located in a car? • Catalytic converters are placed as close as possible to the engine because they require a temperature of 400 degrees Celsius (752 degrees Fahrenheit) to operate effectively. They are usually located underneath the car in the exhaust between the engine and muffler. The catalytic converter is wider than an exhaust pipe and looks like a muffler. • --- Time Stamp -- • 00:00 - Introduction • 01:28 - History of Catalytic Converter • 03:03 - 2-Way Catalytic Converter • 05:07 - 3-Way Catalytic Converter • 07:18 - Rich vs Lean Mixture • 10:20 - Emission Control in Diesel Engines • 15:25 - Advantages of Catalytic Converter • 17:47 - Outro • #catalyticconverter #emission • Check out more videos: • Piston Rings -    • Why Do Engines Need 3 Piston Rings? E...  \\ • Best Valvetrain -    • Which is the Best Engine Valvetrain D...   • Follow us on • Facebook:-   / fanpageengineerspost   • Instagram:-   / the_engineers_post   • Pinterest:-   / theengineerspost   • Contact us: [email protected] • Visit our Website for more articles:- https://www.theengineerspost.com/ • 'Signal to Noise' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au • Disclaimer: This video is for educational purposes only.
