I love how this movie portrayed a character, a character whom through the worlds and everyone else's lenses is an angry, alcoholic jerk and don't get me wrong, he WAS. • He was very much a jerk, he cheated on his wife and didn't care about anyone, (besides, perhaps his sister) hell, he didn't even care about himself. • But he was still human, he still was a human lost in the world where he couldn't find a belonging, ((probably)) because of his own actions, yet he was also probably too ignorant/guilty/uncaring with his past actions he wouldn't take the chance to change himself... the high road... yet took the road to nowhere, a place where he would find no belonging but drown that want for belonging, that need. • I also love how the movie didn't glorify this jerk persona (imo) Nobody watches the movie and wants to be Bobby's character. He's miserable. • It truly feels like the movie was trying to warn you. We're all human, we're all in danger to falling into Bobby's ways. We don't love him; we don't hate him. We want to help him. But we can't help him unless he wants to help himself, no matter how much we would want to, he needs to WANT to help himself. • Bobby in the end didn't care. Or perhaps he did. (Depending on how you took the ending) • Maybe he cared enough to know he would only hurt his girlfriend more by being with her and left her for her own good by hitchhiking from the gas station. • He either took the road to nowhere, or finally, the right road. It's up to perception. • Bobby's approach to life always had been the easy route, avoiding confronting his deeper issues of not belonging and alienation. • We can only hope that he would change his life around before it was too late. • • That's my quick analysis of the movie!
