The man known as the East Area Rapist, the Golden State Killer and the Visalia Ransacker has been sentenced to life in prison. Confessed serial killer Joseph DeAngelo, 74, will die in prison after he pleaded guilty in June to 13 murders and 13 rape-related charges stemming from crimes in the 1970s and 1980s under a plea deal that allows him to avoid the death penalty. The former police officer also admitted to dozens more sexual assaults that he could not be criminally charged with because too much time has passed.
