Mayo Clinic electrophysiologist, Suraj Kapa, M.D., discusses ventricular tachycardia. Visit http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-co... for more information on ventricular tachycardia or to schedule an appointment. • Ventricular tachycardia is a heart rhythm disorder caused by abnormal electrical signals in the ventricles of the heart. Ventricular arrhythmias can occur in both structurally normal and structurally abnormal hearts. These arrhythmias can appear as extra beats, skipped beats, or a rapid array of beats. • When treating ventricular arrhythmias it is important to determine what is causing it and how significant the arrhythmia is. Treatment for ventricular arrhythmia can be in the form of medications, known as antiarrhythmic drugs, or implantation of a defibrillator. Antiarrhythmic drug therapy is used to prevent the arrhythmias from occurring while defibrillators are used as a life-saving measure in case they do. • Watch Part 2:    • Ablation: Treatment for Ventricular T...
