With the kids' off school for the Summer I've not bouldered or trained for about a month. I thought I'd ease myself back in with a mellow session at Birchen. I've climbed here loads over the last 20 years, but only trad/easy soloing, so it was really fun to come back to climb some proper boulder problems. • They all felt pretty soft for a big boy, but I'm definitely aching this morning after such a long break. Skin needs to toughen up again too! • 00:00 Cabin Boy 7A (obvs not a 7A for the long-of-arm, but fun to try as the least springy climber in the Peak) • 00:23 Technical Genius 7A (don't quite get this one. Are you meant to solo out to the right?) • 00:52 Thing On A Spring 7A (the dyno is easy for the tall, but the start still takes some figuring out) • 01:25 Hornblower 6C+ (grade seems good on this one. Best problem of the session by a long way) • 02:00 MP3 7B (strong downgrade votes on UKC for this but still 7B in the new guide. I figured this out quickly at the end of the session with tired arms and no skin, so probably a bit soft. Cool flexy beta though.) • Looking forward to getting back at it once I stop hurting.
