Japan and the U.S. may be about to undertake the most significant change to Washington’s military posture in Asia in decades. The Financial Times reports Washington is considering appointing a four-star commander to oversee American forces in Japan to meet the rising threat from China. This will help support Taiwan, where cross-strait tensions are rising around its outlying Kinmen Islands. Lying just two kilometers from China, the past two months have seen two maritime incidents in which at least four Chinese nationals died.
