In dentistry separating means: isolating the contact surfaces between teeth. For what purpose? There are different reasons for wanting to separate teeth: to seal initial caries, also called enamel caries, to fasten an orthodontic device such as braces, or in case of an infracture. You can find more on this topic in the video Infracture and Tooth Banding . The separation of teeth is done with small rubber bands called separating rubbers. You don't feel pain during the separation. It feels as if you had bitten something and it got stuck between your teeth-this paraesthesia will stop after a short time.
