#newjalpaiguri to #darjeeling #darjeeling_tour #toytrain #india #unesco #worldheritage • Established in 1881, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. It operates on 2 feet narrow gauge rail path negotiating as many as eleven zigzags and loops on the way. From New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling it covers a total distance of 88 kms and stops at Siliguri, Sukna, Rangtong, Tindharia, Gayabari, Mahanadi, Kurseong, Tung, Sonada, Rongbull, Jorebunglo and Ghum in between. Originally it was driven by steam engine but now some diesel engines have also been deployed to pull the train. The highest point Ghum is at an elevation of 2258 meters above the sea level. Besides the New Jalpaiguri-Darjeeling route, a shorter route has also been developed for the enthusiastic tourists.
