Miniseries Monday: Based on the book by Colleen McCullough, 'Thorn Birds' (1983) was a story of the forbidden love between a Catholic priest and the niece of a sheep station owner in Australia. The story spanned five decades and to say it was successful would be an understatement. It became the #2 miniseries of all time ('Roots' being #1) and won six Primetime Emmys. Henry Mancini was nominated for his music but lost out to 'Rage of Angels' (Billy Goldenberg). The 'Thorn Birds' theme, issued as a single, charted in the UK top 25.
