A UNC Asheville assistant professor finds a new image of President Abraham Lincoln in a picture at the Library of Congress. • Christopher Oakley obtained a rare stereo picture of Lincoln taken right before he delivered his Gettysburg Address. While studying new high-resolution copy, he spotted a face in the crowd that looked like Lincoln. He used computer imaging technology to check the shape of Lincolns face, and became the first person to find a new picture of Lincoln in 61 years. • Several top Lincoln scholars agree with Oakley, and the picture has created a sensation among researchers and reporters. Oakleys find is published in the Smithsonian Magazine and USA Today. • Oakley is using the discovery to teach students animation and the possibilities of computer generated effects. The class is called The Virtual Lincoln Project and students are creating a 3D reconstruction of the Gettysburg Address. • _______________ • Follow WLOS on social media: • WLOS ABC 13 News on Facebook: / news13 • WLOS ABC 13 News on Twitter: / wlos_13 • WLOS ABC 13 News on Instagram: / wlos_13 • Subscribe to WLOS on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/ABC13Cha... • Listen to AnchorMOMS, the Podcast: • https://wlos.com/news/anchormoms/anch... • Watch more top local news stories: • Western Loses At ETSU, Highlights and... • For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit http://www.wlos.com • Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://wlos.com/watch • Have a news tip?
