In Spanish-speaking countries, when children start kindergarten, they learn more than just their first name. One of the first phrases they learn to read and write is: Mi mamá me ama (My mom loves me). This phrase is not only a fundamental part of our culture but also an essential tool for learning to break down syllables, place accents, and spell words. More importantly, it serves as a heartfelt reminder that, even as they embark on their educational journey, their mom's love remains constant and unwavering. • For these young children, knowing Mi mamá me ama provides comfort and reassurance. It reminds them that, although they are just five years old and starting school, their mother's love is the most powerful force in their lives. • In the classroom, the teacher becomes a surrogate mom, taking on the role of caring for the kids as if they were her own. From teaching to disciplining, she becomes a comadre—a comrade in raising the children of the barrio or neighborhood. • This year, before, during, and after Hispanic Heritage Month, we will be releasing a video every Friday as a call to action. We invite all comadres to step into their powerful roles as the matriarchs of Latino families. Join us in celebrating and empowering the women who shape our communities and ensure the success and well-being of our children. • Stay tuned for our weekly videos, and let's unite to honor the strength and love of our comadres to ensure our kids have a bright future! • #comadresinaction #mimamameama #latinovalues #vote
