Ocean City Plane Intercepted By Fighter Jet

A young pilot flying out of Ocean City, New Jersey, got the shock of a lifetime when he looked out his window and saw an F-16 fighter jet closing in on him. Unbeknownst to him, he had made a critical error. • During a pre-flight checklist, pilots typically check the weather, but equally important is reviewing TFRs (Temporary Flight Restrictions) and NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen). These restrictions are crucial, especially in areas where the National Guard and other military forces conduct training exercises. • In recent years, Cape May and parts of the Wildwoods have frequently seen TFRs due to President Joe Biden’s visits to his shore house in Rehoboth Beach. These TFRs can extend up to 30 nautical miles from the center of the restricted area, covering places like Sea Isle City. Without proper clearance, no aircraft is allowed to operate in these zones, not even drones. • Unfortunately, the pilot from Ocean City Municipal Airport missed the TFR information and unknowingly entered restricted airspace while heading toward Cape May. As soon as he crossed the line near Wildwood, fighter jets, which are usually on standby, moved in. The air traffic control tower tried to contact the pilot, who was unaware of the TFR until he saw the F-16. • The entire conversation between the tower and the F-16 pilot, “Devil 1,” was recorded and streamed online.
