By some measures the birthplace of the modern railway, Darlington is a fascinating town in County Durham with a history dating back over 1,000 years. Set on the River Skerne just north of Yorkshire, the town is home to Norman, Victorian and 20th 21st century landmarks, as well as a few hidden surprises. • On our walk around the town centre, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including Darlington Station, DL1 Leisure Park, the River Skerne, St. Cuthbert's Church, Market Place, Market Hall, Darlington Clock Tower, Mechanic's Yard, Post House Wynd, Darlington Quoits Club, the Majestic Theatre and the Joseph Pease Statue. • 0:00 Park Lane and Darlington Station • 0:40 Victoria Road • 3:57 St. Cuthbert's Way/A167 • 4:20 View of DL1 Leisure Park • 4:28 St. Cuthbert's Way/A167 • 5:16 River Skerne • 7:23 St. Cuthbert's Church and Church Gardens • 9:46 Market Place • 11:02 Bull Wynd and Market Hall • 11:39 High Row • 11:53 View of Darlington Clock Tower, Market Hall St. Cuthbert's • 12:21 Blackwellgate • 13:38 Skinnergate • 14:30 Mechanics' Yard • 15:17 The Quakerhouse • 15:43 High Row and Darlington Clock Tower • 16:35 Post House Wynd • 17:45 Skinnergate • 18:08 Duke Street • 20:06 Larchfield Street • 21:35 Portland Place • 22:22 Bondgate • 23:38 Darlington Majestic Theatre • 23:52 Bondgate • 26:01 High Row • 26:30 Joseph Pease Statue • 26:44 High Row • 27:39 Thank you for watching! • Stats for nerds: • Distance walked: 1.8 miles/2.9km • Step count: 3600 steps (approx.) • Time taken: 27 mins 32 secs • Average speed: 3.9mph/6.3kmh • Please do not use any footage from this video without my permission.
