This little video shows how easy it is to do a little plogging, even during a cycle home. I plogged this cycle pump track for about three minutes and it made a real difference. • It also allowed me to clear my head after an intense staff meeting spent learning about the tenth major version change to Australia’s curriculum that I’ve experienced in my 14 years of teaching. • ________________________________________________ • Upcoming Plogging Events: • • Plogging and Multimedia Training in Inverell, NSW, Australia on Saturday, 14 December 2024 at midday in the park behind Big W (the Sapphire City Markets will be held in the same place the following day: https://www.inverell.com.au/event/sap... ). • • Plog and Plant in Uganda in December 2025. I will be joining tree planting and plogging experts in multiple places in Uganda to learn about reforestation and keeping our planet clean. • For more information, please ask by commenting to this video. • ________________________________________________ • What is Plogging? • Plogging is any physical activity that involves collecting rubbish. It is commonly collecting rubbish whilst running or jogging, but I often encourage walking. Plogging during water activities is also an option. • Why is Plogging Important? • Because it is so easy to participate in plogging, it serves as a convenient option to combine both physical activity and environmentally restorative action. • Why is Plogging Important to Me? • I am a former fitness instructor, behavioural science researcher, and environmental protection officer. I’m also currently a teacher. I care greatly about people’s wellness and the wellness of our environment. Plogging ticks every box! • I try to make these videos about plogging, not me. If you’re interested in what led to me doing what I do then you can read about it here: • https://flyingbeardman.com/ • ________________________________________________ • Feel free to share The Plogging Game far and wide. Imagine if this game was played daily in every school in the world! It would become second nature for people to clean up the environment. • The Plogging Game - Instructions • The Plogging Game can be played by anyone who enjoys moving around outside. Here are the rules: • The referee chooses a plogging location that the competitors do not know in advance. That way the location cannot be pre-seeded with known rubbish locations. • Competitors stand on the starting line with their hands in the air, just as if they were being held up by a bushranger. This makes sure that nobody has already collected rubbish in their hands. The referee does a quick visual check for bulging pockets that might contain previously collected rubbish. • When the referee blows the whistle, the competitors run like maniacs in search of as much rubbish as they can collect in two minutes. • After two minutes has passed, the referee blows the whistle two times. Competitors have 30 seconds to return back over the starting line. If they take more than 30 seconds, the score for each rubbish item is halved. Scores are halved again for every additional 10 seconds. • This is how the rubbish is scored by the referee(s): • 1. Biodegradable rubbish does not count. • 2. 10 points per piece of unrecyclable rubbish. • 3. 20 points per piece of recyclable rubbish. • 4. Rubbish that appears to have been torn up by the competitor is counted as one piece. • 5. Any biohazards MUST not be picked up. • The referee(s) calculates the results whilst the competitors wash their hands and generally have a great time chatting.
