Today's video is all about setting up a guinea pig cage! • My guinea pigs cage is (She has the XL - 6ft by 4ft): • http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RABBIT-GUIN... • It has NO base but I have wooden flooring so I just put it on the wooden flooring. It is known to have caused problems with Rabbits and getting there head stuck but Minstrel only has a tiny head and I haven't had any issues - if I think its a hazard I will mesh the cage. • Hopefully you are setting your Guinea Pig Cage up for 2 or more pigs, and therefore it is ideal that you do have two water bottles, two hidey houses, 2 separate litter trays ect just to stop any possible squabbles at this stressful time as remember that your guinea pigs will be very stressed moving homes/arriving home and therefore you need to make it as stress free as possible and avoid guinea pig squabbles over small things. • I do not use anything absorbent under Minstrels fleeces because she is litter trained and therefore she will not wee on her fleece! It is very unlikely that your guinea pig will be and therefore it is essential that you either use fleece cage liners (that already have an absorbent layer in them) or towels and puppy pads underneath) so that your guinea pig is standing in soggy fleece all day! • Obviously you do not have to use fleece and a bedding like Fitch is perfectly fine to use. Just line the bottom of your cage with newspaper (for extra warmth and for protecting the bottom of the hutch/cage) and then place your bedding on top! • Remember that your cage has to be at least 120cm x 40cm for 2 guinea pigs. You can use runs like me which are cheap and easy to use or buy C C grids and make a indoor cage or use a good size hutch/shed. • Some good litter to put in litter trays are: • Fitch: http://www.fitchrecycling.co.uk • Hay Bedding • Woodshavings • Carefresh • No Clumping cat litter • Some good foods to feed are: • Harringtons/ Pets at home Own brand for the UK • and Oxboow for US/Canada • Some good recommended toys and chews: • Tunnels! (Literally anything they can run through they love) • Cardboard boxes (so cheap yet an absolute favourite!) • Willow/wiker/seagrass ect fun balls (are a huge favourite to chew and destroy!) • Strawberry house!
