Have you ever wondered what happens to your food scraps when they end up in landfill? • When food and garden waste is buried in landfill, it is broken down by bacteria that thrive in the oxygen-deprived environment. When they digest the organic waste, these bacteria create methane, a greenhouse gas that is more than 25 times as potent as carbon dioxide. • Collecting and composting organic waste produces around 25 times less methane as sending the same amount of food waste to landfill. The regular turning of the material during the composting process adds oxygen, and eliminates much of the methane-producing bacteria. • That’s why our new FOGO collection is so important! • Our FOGO scraps will be transported to Bio Gro, where it will be turned into nutrient rich mulch and compost. Watch the Bio Gro video to see how this process works. • For more information on FOGO visit our website https://www.yarraranges.vic.gov.au/wh...
