Tianmen Mountain (天门山) is a notable landmark located within Tianmen Mountain National Park, Zhangjiajie, in the northwestern part of Hunan Province (湖南省), China. The mountain reaches an elevation of 1,518.6 meters (4,982 feet), making it a prominent feature in the region. It became even more accessible after the construction of the Tianmen Mountain Cableway in 2005, which is celebrated as the longest passenger cableway of high mountains in the world, spanning 7,455 meters (24,459 feet) with a total ascent of 1,279 meters (4,196 feet). • Visitors to Tianmen Mountain can explore kilometers of paths along the cliff face at the mountain's summit, including sections with glass floors, offering breathtaking views. Another remarkable feature is the Tongtian Avenue, an 11 km (7 mi) road with 99 bends leading up to the mountain and to the Tianmen cave, a natural arch with a height of 131.5 meters (431.4 feet), often referred to as Heaven's Door (天门). The entrance to this cave is marked by the Stairway to Heaven, consisting of 999 steps. • The summit is also home to the Tianmenshan Temple, accessible by chairlift or footpath. The original temple, built during the Tang dynasty, was destroyed in the early 20th century, but a new temple, reflecting Tang dynasty architecture, was constructed in 1949. The temple is set within landscaped grounds covering 2 hectares (4.9 acres). • Tianmen Mountain has been a site for various events, including the World Wingsuit Championships.
