In this video, we will cover how to use the Excel VLOOKUP with Multiple criteria. Normally you will see VLOOKUP used for 1 condition or criteria. But, as you will see in this video, there are often times where 1 criteria base VLOOKUPs will yield wrong information. Like in the case when a customer has more than 1 transaction over a date range. There can also be times when 2 criteria are not enough and can lead to wrong data, so I show how to do this with both 2 and 3 criteria. • In this video we will use real marketing campaign data from a real company and I will show you what happens if we just use customer ID (1 condition), customer ID and Date (2 conditions) and then Customer ID, Date and Transaction ID (3 conditions). I will also show you how to use the Excel CONCATENATE function to correctly get the field you want for the VLOOKUP function. Make sure you have this new, concatenated field in both the original sheet and the sheet you are pulling back the data from. • Join in the discussions and more on my FaceBook Data Science group. VLOOKUP(ConcatField, sheet and range of data, return column, FALSE) • b. VLOOKUP(B2,Sheet1:A1:G1234,FALSE) • • In essence, what we are doing is taking multiple criteria and placing them in a new concatenated field which we will place in both sheets and then using this new field for the VLOOKUP. This is by far the simplest and quickest method for doing VLOOKUPs with multiple conditions in Excel - and an essential skill in data science and data analysis. Once you have used this you will agree and wonder why you never used this before as it is so simple to use on almost any data. • I hope you found this video on VLOOKUP with Multiple vlookup criteria in Excel to be helpful.
