(23 Jun 2021) LEAD IN: • Moroccan artists in Rabat are bringing street art indoors. • The walls of the staircase at Hiba Foundation were lifeless before, but now they are bursting with colour. • • STORY LINE: • It normally belongs outside, but Moroccan muralists have come together to create street art indoors. • The walls of the staircase at Hiba Foundation adorn the works of four mural artists, who would normally paint outside. • The exhibition invites people to discover this urban art without having to venture outside too much. • The idea of working together, us four artists, was a bit difficult but we found common points between us, says Mehdi Zemouri, one of the participating artists. • Ultimately, the artists figured out how to complement one another's work especially regarding colours, Zemouri adds. • From graffiti to stencilling, the work displayed on the staircase of Hiba Foundation mixes and matches various art techniques. • Graffitist Ayoub Fetili says the space was tighter than the larger spaces he usually works in, adding that working outside offers more freedom . • Before this exhibition, the walls of the staircase were white and lifeless, but Fetili says some people prefer to leave walls undecorated. • It was an artistic and creative challenge for the artists to express themselves in this space but now the walls of the staircase at Hiba Foundation are brimming with colour. • Most of the walls drawn over have a story, a theme, a style, whether figurative or abstract, Fetili says. • The exhibition, called XPO FMR - Street Art Inside , is organised by the Hiba Foundation in Rabat and will run until 15 July 2021. • Street art is continuously developing and reinventing itself in Morocco, especially with the emergence of festivals and training courses dedicated to this art form. • The Hiba Foundation was created in 2006 and has since been helping develop emerging arts and encourage talent. • The foundation's goal behind this indoor art exhibition is to encourage street art. • • Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork • Twitter: / ap_archive • Facebook: / aparchives • Instagram: / apnews • • • You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
