Beginning in the city of Leon close to the western end of the Meseta, the route passes through Hospital de Órbigo, Astorga, Foncebadón, Ponferrada, Villafranca del Bierzo, La Faba, Triacastela, Sarria, Portomarín, Palas de Rei, Arzúa, O Pedrouzo and finally Santiago de Compostela.
