http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0177707/ • Directors: William K.L. Dickson/William Heise • Cast: W.K.L. Dickson or Charles D'Almaine • Production Company: Edison Manufacturing Company • Country: USA • Notes: Dickson played the violin so this could be him in the film but there was also an Edison phonograph violinist, Charles D'Almaine, who is said to have resembled Dickson so it's possible that it is he who appears in the film. This is the first known experiment in producing a motion picture with a recorded synchronized soundtrack. A recording named Dickson Violin has survived at the Edison National Historic Site and it may be the recording made to accompany this film. The music is a selection from The Chimes at Midnight by Jean Robert Planquette. The film was never released commercially. This was also Dickson's final film for Edison. He resigned on April 2, 1895 and went on to become one of the founding members of the American Mutoscope Company. • More rare films here: https://filmsbytheyear.com/chronologi... • Join the Films by the Year Facebook Group:   / filmsbytheyear   • Please support Films by the Year: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...
